Todd McKean, CEO and Founder NarrowGate Services International Ltd.

Todd McKean has spent 14 years, spanning 3 decades, living, studying, and working in China. Todd, the third generation of his family to live and work in China, first came here in 1981. As early as the late 1980’s Todd was focused on the study and research of social, economic and labor issues, with his primary focus on the Socio-economic development of the China’s coast and interior, and specifically on worker migration. Todd then built his professional skill-base for this work among an elite team of people at Nike International - a leading company in the area of labor and environmental compliance. At Nike, Todd worked on developing assessment tools, remediation action plans, and was a key participant in growing the field of corporate responsibility at Nike and in the greater industry. In addition to the many years of hands-on experience working in factories around the world, Todd has been a featured speaker and guest lecturer at many of the World’s top Universities, including Harvard University, Stanford University, Cornell University, UC Berkeley and many others. Todd has also been a featured panelist and trainer at symposiums hosted by the International Labor Organization, United States National Academy of Science and other international labor and environmental organizations. While Todd’s focus and specialty has primarily been China, he has also had responsibility for staff and compliance work in over 50 countries across the globe. This global experience gives Todd and NarrowGate Services International a unique vantage point from which to address issues, train staff and build programs.

The work that Todd has done over the past several years has brought him into close daily contact with brand-based production personnel, as well as factory management and staff. This knowledge base, coupled with his deep understanding of labor issues and standards, gives him a sincere appreciation for not only what it takes to “do the right thing”, but the challenges that are faced from a production standpoint. To this end, Todd and his NarrowGate Services International staff will work directly with each facility to steadily improve their corporate social responsibility standards, comply with the requirements of their customer’s Codes of Conduct and local legal standards, and strive to accomplish these goals while remembering production expectations.

Having worked as a Sr. Director for one of the world’s most recognizable brands, Todd has a keen understanding of Brand Management and Brand Risk Alleviation. He is therefore very sensitive to the needs of a global brand in ensuring swift, precise and integrity-based issues resolution. With ever increasing scrutiny of companies producing in China, this background is one of NarrowGate Services key assets.

NarrowGate Services International is Todd's personal response to the great need for multi-national companies to have a locally based, locally relevant consultant to serve as a guide to develop programs and remediate non-compliance in factories.
